Hearken back to the cold November when Lewis and Clark
first viewed the Pacific Ocean! This "Ocean in View" will be an ocean for
you when you see this historic sight turn up in your change...and, as this
month's

of the Month, Goldie is happy to fill you in on some of the details
that make this moment in history so crucial and memorable.
Between November 1 and 18, you can find a page devoted to
veterans, Veterans Day, and veterans coins on the United States Mint
H.I.P. Pocket Change™ Web site. The page helps you find various coins and
medals around the site that relate to veterans. And, in honor of the
Marine Corps 230th anniversary in 2005, there's a fun quiz to test your
Marine Corps IQ. Look for the Veterans Day icon on the home page, or

Question: Should I clean the coins in my
collection?
Answer: You may be tempted to shine
them up, but you should proceed with caution. Most of the time, cleaning
coins reduces their value. If you absolutely must remove some dirt, use
good-quality mild soap and water. Once you've washed the coin, pat it dry
with a soft towel. Don't brush or rub it, which can scratch the coin's
delicate surface. Believe it or not, older coins that show the deep
coloration of age are far more desirable than coins whose surfaces have
been marred by improper cleaning.
